The past, a new talent and some good old fashion family fun.

We're at my parent's house in Jacksonville this weekend having some good ol' family fun. (the above pic is KK (mom) with her miami crew, laina, anders and hayden.)

A few family highlights so far:

Hayden, Uncle Kyle and I saw a snake in the yard. (note: not actual snake but the same kind. A black racer. They are "good" snakes here in FL. They eat "bad" snakes.)

One thing we always do is give KK a hard time because she keeps everything way past its prime. Case in point. One of my old sports bras from who knows when...

All i can say to this is, "let's get physical, physical. i wanna get physical. let's get into physical. let me hear your body talk."

I've also been in the kitchen quite a bit this weekend and discovered i have a latent talent of corn cutting. We've decided it must be my idahoen roots.

Kelsey (Kyle's girl) has learned to use a straw.

And all the grandkids are learning to get along!

(jetski/boat pics to come...)

i'm sportin' a sweet tan

this is what happened to me after several hours on the key this morning. i'm definitely going to have to do a little damage control at the pool today.

and let's be honest, this angle doesn't do great things for the thighs. I mean, they're not small. but this makes them look especially ginormous. can we discuss the right one (on left side of pic)? what's going on there? and i have mini feet.

the pic gave me a little flashback to childhood. kevin and kyle called them the "kegs" when i was little. SERIOUSLY. during my formative years!!! it's a wonder i don't have some serious issues.
well...i guess that is subjective. :)

St Anthony's Tri Pics

ok, enough about steve. let's get back to me! (kidding. well, sorta.)
here are some pics from my st anthony's tri that i wrote about a few weeks ago.

this is the swim. start, exit (up stairs with waves crashing in!), running out

no bike pics. but do have some run and finish shots.

remember...the finish time is not my actual time. i started almost 2 hours after the first wave. and this is me trying to perfect the hands over the head "i am a champion" finish. CLEARLY i have some work to do. but it's better than the mit one.

and finally, me and my well-deserved medal.

yay.

O happy day!

Just wanted to wish my good friend steve (of steve happens) a happy birthday today. And yes, he gets his own post because he's the one who got me into this whole blogging world in the first place. Have a great day steve.

I love this picture of him. It's kinda creepy.
and steve, how 'bout my html skills here. some centered copy and an embedded link...oh yeah!

Am i emitting a mating call?

As usual, i was riding on Key Biscayne this morning, minding my own business -- doing my workout and having a good time. For those of you that don't know, Key Biscayne is the cycling and triathlon haven of Miami. There tend to be a lot of people on the weekends, especially guys. Usually i am with my friends but today i was flying solo.

So I'm a third of the way done with my cycling workout when i see this guy turn around in front of me. No big deal. But as he passes me, he's looking at me the whole time. And i know exactly what's about to happen. Sure enough, he turns around and rides up next to me. We start talking. Of course, he used to ride professionally. (They ALL say that. It's the funniest thing ever.) I finally get to the the point where i need to turn to do another loop. We say our goodbyes and i am alone once again. Woo hoo.

About an hour later, i've finished my last interval and am starting my 30 minute cool down. I'm taking it easy when i see this guy in front of me look back (i had just been at a place where i had to turn around so we had already seen each other once). Here we go again. He slows down and starts talking to me. He was actually really nice and i enjoyed the conversation (because it was about not his pro career or some other athletic prowess).

So what is it with these guys? I mean, i spend 2 hours on my bike and have 2 guys hit on me?? Do they not SEE that i am working out and in my own little world and want to be A-LONE?? Perhaps it's my form. (Sadly, i've been told that before by another guy that hit on me a few months ago.)

It just cracks me up so i had to share.

Damsel in Distress

This morning while riding on key biscayne i got a flat. Oh I've changed many a flat tire in my day (okay, three), but this flat was a bit different. It was the BACK wheel...that's right, the one with the derailleur on it...whatever that means. :)

So i am on the side of the road sulking, and thinking how the heck am i going to do this all by myself. (I mean, i've seen it done a few times, but there is a big difference between seeing and doing.) Enter Andre. Thank God for Andre. He was riding by and asked if i needed help. With my tail between my legs i said yes. Not more than ten minutes later, my tire is changed, i'm back on my bike and Andre is riding off into the sunset. Oh...wait...it was morning, but you get the point. He helped me. I am thankful.
End Scene.
